Though there are 2 ways of calculating the index, market capitalization method is used in many countries to calculate the same. Nifty stands as an index for National Stock Exchange (NSE). It has many segments in it including spot, futures and options. Lot size of nifty index future changes depending on its market value. Presently the lot size of nifty future is 50 shares per lot.
Nifty Futures: To say in general, future is a contract to buy or sell an underlying asset or security at a specific price for a specific time. Just as nifty future, to say stock futures too exist in stock exchanges with different lot sizes leaving all other remaining formalities same. Each future security can be available for a future contract of 3 months including the present month. The expiry date for the respective contract will be the last thursday of the month. Nifty Options: This is another type of contract based on intrinsic and time values. Same as nifty future, this too hold the lot size as 50 shares. The current market price is called as premium and the betting price is called strike price of the security.
